Voulez Vous Manger avec moi?

I had a wonderful weekend, I hope you did too. Returned to the Louvre today. Discovered a number of amazing pieces I hadn't seen before, including the lovely pieta by Enguerrand Quarton.

Why don't they build a chain of super-museums in every major city with reproductions drawn from collections (public and private) all around the world? I don't think its an intellectual property issue. Also, why isn't there a fine art equilvanent of Project Gutenberg?

Why does Jesus look like Jesus? The iconic Christ with beard, long brown hair, etc. appears throughout Byzantine art back to 5th century. Non-Byzantine art from the 4th century is more varied; some portrayals are familiar, in others vary quite a bit.

Saturday I made it to the Picasso Museum. At the time, I was disappointed by the small collection and lack of large paintings. However, in retrospect, it was a powerful experience. A number of the pieces were very compelling. I was fascinated even by the pieces that I didn't like.

I'm rapidly overspending my budget... A 50cl mug of beer in Ste. Germaine (a trendy neighborhood) is 8-9 Euro ($17-19 USD). On the other hand, I keep having wonderful experiences going out. Last night I had wonderful roasted boar. It turns out my ghetto hood is full of wonderful eateries.
