Enormous Changes at the Last Minute

Day of random thoughts.

* I saw a dude chatting on his cell phone on the Metro. Why don't they have that working in NYC?
* Archaeology is only possible when you disregard the sanctity of the grave, of temples, etc. I wonder how archaeology works now, in a post-colonial era, when you can't just dig stuff up and take it away. Is it archaeology if you dig up a medieval graveyard?
* I missed May Day. Apparently everyone was frolicking and celebrating worker's rights... while I slaved away. I was like one of those Japanese soldiers marooned on a remote island who kept fighting WW II for 40 years after the armistice. I need Socialism for Dummies.
* Trip to Amsterdam canceled at the last moment. It was supposed to be a mission to save Marc from working too much... but he had to work this weekend. Never was a mission compromised so quickly and so completely.
* I may not have a place to stay in rome after all. If so, I might rewrite my schedule.

From Lynda Barry's What it is. There's a wonderful sample here.
