From Porto to Pont

Saint Lucy, Francesco Furini, After 1630

Another long day on foot. Slept through mass - the pope can wait til next week.

I saw 4 museums today:
- Museo Barracco: boring. Small, mostly sculpture.
- Museo di Roma in Travestere: awful, a complete waste of time.
- Palazzo Spada
- Palazzo Corsini

The Palazzos had a number of amazing works (especially the Spada), but it was all anticlimactic after yesterday.

On the upside, I had a lot of fun looking at graffiti today:

Note the last image - every single car on the B line is bombed liked its 1983 all over again. Oddly, I've never seen any graf on my line, the A.

I forgot to mention that I saw the Pantheon (absolutely breathtaking) and an utterly insipid Damien Hirst show at the Gagosian gallery.

All in all, Rome the streets are quite quiet - especially after Florence. Many of the museums I go into have only a handful of visitors, which makes for a very reflective experience. At the Uffizi in Florence, I waited 2 hours in line only to (more or less literally) wrestle with mobs inside.

I finally got to walk around the fashionable Travestere neighborhood today. Supposedly that where all of the good eating is. I wished it was more convenient to my casa.

I went to a small party at Alba's last night... every single song that shuffled up was American. When they started asking me about the US (ie. weed clubs in SF), "Born in the USA" come on. I asked about Italian music and they said quite simply: American music is better. It was a nice night... it does the soul good to hear laughter over the brim of a cup.

Song of the day: Bruce Springsteen - Born In The U.S.A.

It turns out the wall that "obstructs" my view is part of the aqueduct. I guess it is the view.
